19/06/2023
A South Carolina woman, Dawn Hilton-Williams, accused a Brunswick County police officer of racism and violent intent after being pulled over for speeding. In an 11-minute Facebook video, she claimed that the officer threatened to pull her out of the car. Her accusations went viral, leading to an investigation by the sheriff's office. However, bodycam footage revealed that Hilton-Williams' allegations were false. The officer only issued her a traffic summons, which she refused to sign. After signing, they parted without incident. The sheriff expressed his disgust with Hilton-Williams' false accusations and emphasized that such tropes lead to good officers being targeted. Hilton-Williams failed to pay her ticket or appear in court and was found guilty of speeding.
