Bystanders Ridicule Cop As He’s Beaten By Man He Tries To Arrest

Officer Michael Sales, 27, was brutally beaten while attempting to make an arrest in Rowland, North Carolina. Video footage shows Sales engaged in a physical confrontation with Jamel Alphonso Rogers, who was allegedly resisting arrest. The suspect prevented Sales from handcuffing him and beat him several times, leaving him bloodied and dazed. Disturbingly, the crowd standing by mocked and encouraged the assault. Finally, another man intervened and dragged Rogers off the officer, but the assault resumed soon after. Sales had to be airlifted to a hospital to treat orbital fractures and other injuries. Rogers was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and other counts. Sheriff Burnis Wilkins expressed his dismay at the disregard for authority that leads to incidents such as this.
