Someone took issue with Banks' display of patriotism and vandalized his property multiple times, leading to an altercation in which Banks defended his flag against a thug who tried to tear it down. The veteran suffered injuries but successfully defended his flag. The incident received an outpouring of support from neighbors, and police are investigating the cowardly assault. Banks enlisted at age 18 and fought in the battle of Iwo Jima, Japan, during World War II. His family has installed cameras, and Banks has warned future attackers that they will be caught and punished.
