A mum in the US has expressed her joy at her eldest daughter being able to help during the birth of her little sister.

Kelsey Davis from Arizona gave birth to her new daughter Summer with eight-year-old Brooke by her side. The mum suffered three heartbreaking miscarriages in recent years so having her daughter there meant everything to her.

When Brooke was three, mum Kelsey shared the news with her that she was going to be a big sister.

Sadly Kelsey lost the baby, a little boy, just a few weeks later.

"Brooke was absolutely heartbroken," Kelsey wrote on Love What Matters.

"She cried so hard and didn't understand why."

Over the next four years, Kelsey went through another two miscarriages.

"Together, her dad and I decided not to tell her of the other two as we didn't want her heart to be crushed again."

Kelsey fell pregnant again in 2015 and when she was far enough along, she decided to tell Brooke.

Thankfully the baby, a girl they named Ellie, was born in January of 2016. Brooke decided to stay in the room for the delivery and the sisters' bond was "immediately one of a kind," said Kelsey.

When Kelsey became pregnant again last year, Brooke knew she wanted to be more involved.

Her parents agreed and allowed her to join them again in the delivery room.

"I prepped Brooke by explaining the positioning, where she could place her hands, that the baby will be slippery, and that there will be a lot of blood, but that it is all normal.

Kelsey's due date came and went and she was eventually induced. Her daughter Brooke stood with her dad at her mum's feet and touched the baby's head as it crowned.

"I asked her if she was okay and she stumbled through tears when she said, 'Yes! She's just so perfect!' And she was — this all was. Our family was right where we all should have been."
