David Coleman, a nine-time felon and convicted sex offender, was sentenced up to 52 years in prison for repeatedly hanging and choking his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter with a pink scarf, causing serious bodily injury. The abuse was discovered when the child's mother found disturbing photos on Coleman's phone and called the police. The victim survived, but the lasting psychological damage is unknown. Coleman blamed methamphetamine for his actions, but the judge and prosecutor described it as torture. This wasn't Coleman's first crime against a child, having previously burned and broken a child's bones. The sentence ensures he won't be eligible for parole until he serves at least 42 years of his term.
