A video posted by the advocacy group Black and Asian Souls Unite (BASU) shows a young black man pointing a handgun at another black man who allegedly attempted to carjack an elderly Asian man in Los Angeles. The good Samaritan intervened, fired a warning shot into the air, and pushed the alleged carjacker away from his victim. Miracle Mile Zone 7 Representative Thao Tran revealed that the incident happened in April 2022 south of the intersection of Wilshire and Ridgely. While firing a weapon into the air is not advisable, the actions of the good Samaritan have been praised as an example of allyship between the Asian and Black communities.
