Henry Joel, a 71-year-old man from North Philadelphia, exchanged gunfire with two armed muggers who attempted to rob him after he picked up some Chinese takeout. He pulled out his revolver and fired at the attackers who fled the scene. During the shootout, Henry was struck once in the ankle but is expected to make a full recovery. He had a message for would-be gangsters, warning them that a life of crime "will put you in the ground." Homicides and violent crime have increased in Philadelphia during 2022, bucking a national trend of decreasing homicides in most major US cities.
