Woman Who Dragged Cop With SUV Appeals ‘Too Harsh’ Sentence

Brittany Burnett, a 27-year-old woman from New York, appealed her sentence after dragging a state trooper onto a highway with her SUV. She had been sentenced to 5 years in prison and 364 days in county jail for causing serious injury to the officer. However, instead of reducing her sentence, the appeals court decided that it was too lenient. They ruled that Burnett should receive an additional 3 to 5 years behind bars for the assault, potentially doubling her prison time if served consecutively. The court rejected her attorneys' arguments, including claims of unfair evidence submission and improper reprimanding of a witness.
