Tom Hanks has spoken out against retroactive editing of classic literature to suit modern sensitivities. Hanks said he would boycott any book rewritten to avoid offending people, adding that it is not difficult to identify outdated language. Instead, he advocated for readers to make their own decisions about what they find offensive.

Hanks made the comments during a BBC Radio 4 interview, in which he promoted his new book, The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece. The discussion followed controversy over the removal of certain words and phrases from books by Agatha Christie and Roald Dahl due to sensitivity concerns.
