But she goes on to explain that there's a certain appeal to these shows, a form of escapism that can be comforting in difficult times.
"It's nice to daydream about a bunch of 20-somethings in swimwear having crises that amount to positively nada," she writes. "There's more justice in the pastel-hued, ab-laden 'Love Island' bubble than in the real world.
